A Baraboo woman was arrested Tuesday for burying her infant who died during birth five years ago without notifying authorities, Sauk County sheriff’s officials said.

Baraboo police received information on Tuesday that about five years ago, a Baraboo woman had given birth to a child in the Blackhawk Manor subdivision, according to a release.

Police were told the baby died during birth and the mother, Brenda M. Bomstein, 33, buried the child in the family’s yard without notifying proper authorities, officials said.

The Baraboo Police Department, the Division of Criminal Investigation and a Dane County Sheriff’s Office cadaver dog searched the property, and during that search Bomstein admitted to burying the infant, according to the release.

The cadaver dog led crews to a portion of the property where they found the remains of an infant consistent with the information they received, officials said.

Bomstein was arrested on a tentative charge of felony concealing the death of a child.
