Sheriff: Man admits to stealing ATV during burglary questioning
A Reedsburg man reportedly admitted to stealing an ATV while he was being questioned about another crime, officials said.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office said 33-year-old Barry W. Riddle was arrested Monday on suspicion of residential burglary in the town of Westfield in December 2014. Officials said DNA and other physical evidence linked Riddle to the burglary.
While detectives were questioning Riddle about the burglary, Riddle reportedly admitted to stealing a truck and an all-terrain vehicle from United Co-operative in the city of Reedsburg on Sunday and later trading the ATV for a rifle, according to the report.
The sheriff’s office said the truck was found in the town of Woodland, off the roadway. The truck had sustained a fire. The ATV and the firearm that was traded for the ATV were also recovered.
Riddle was charged with possession of a firearm as a felon, operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and theft of moveable property, the sheriff’s office said.
Riddle is scheduled for a bond hearing Wednesday.
Officials said Riddle is also a suspect in other crimes in the Reedsburg area.
