A two-vehicle crash in the township of Springdale sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries Saturday afternoon, according to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, driven by Michael Krall, 37, crossed into incoming traffic along County Road S at 12:39 p.m., hitting a Yukon Denali head-on.

The driver of the Yukon, 32-year-old Ryan Paynter, and his passenger, 28-year-old Candice Korning, both of Darlington, had to be pulled out of the sport utility vehicle.

Both Paynter and Korning were taken to UW Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Officers say Paynter was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Krall was not injured. He is expected to be cited for the incident.

County Road S from Highway 78 to Witte Road was closed for two hours as deputies cleaned up the scene.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash.
