Serve Wisconsin launches new AmeriCorps recruitment campaign

MADISON, Wis. — Serve Wisconsin has launched a statewide member recruitment campaign for Americorps.
The “Stand Up, Step Up” campaign calls for motivated people who want to serve their community.
AmeriCorps is a national service program that places thousands of young adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education and develop an appreciation for citizenship.
Wisconsin currently has 744 members that serve in several ways throughout the state, aiming to tackle problems including the academic achievement gap, health and nutrition, the opioid epidemic and housing.
“The need in Wisconsin is greater than ever, and we are always looking for members who are passionate about standing up and stepping up in their communities,” said Paula Horning, board chair of Serve Wisconsin. “The beauty of the AmeriCorps program is that members not only get the chance to make an impact, but they also gain hands-on experience that can contribute to their futures.”
In exchange for their service, members earn an education award that can be used to pay for college or to back-pay qualified student loans.
The Stand Up, Step Up campaign launched Monday with National Day of Service events in Madison and Stevens Point. In Milwaukee, Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch helped unveil the campaign at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee.
