Sen. Ron Johnson tests positive for coronavirus

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson has tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to a statement from Johnson’s communications director, the senator “feels healthy and is not experiencing symptoms.”

“I have never developed any symptoms,” Johnson said on a call with reporters Saturday morning. “I feel fine. I feel normal.”

The statement from Johnson’s office said he was exposed to someone on Sept. 29 who later tested positive. Johnson said that person was his chief of staff. The senator was tested Friday afternoon, went to an event in Ozaukee, and then later found out he tested positive.

Johnson will quarantine until cleared by his doctor. In the meantime, Johnson’s office will shift to all-virtual “for the immediate future.”

On the call with reporters, Johnson also chimed in on Wisconsin Republicans’ court battle to end Gov. Tony Evers’ mask mandate. Johnson said, “I’m not for mask mandates, I’m for personal responsibility.”
