One person dead after I-39/90 crash that sent semi over median

MADISON, Wis. — One person was killed Sunday after a crash on I-39/90 that flipped a semi over a median.

Emergency crews were sent to the scene of the crash near US 51 just after 9:50 a.m. A heavily damaged sedan was found and a semi was on its side straddling the median. All lanes of I-39/90 were shut down because of the incident.

Sun Prairie Fire and Rescue officials said the driver of the sedan died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the semi was able to exit the vehicle on his own and was taken to a local hospital.

Wisconsin State Patrol officials said the semi was traveling northbound when it rear-ended the sedan. The semi then veered left, crashing into the median and rolling over, blocking the southbound lanes. Multiple other vehicles were damaged by debris.

At 2:30 p.m. Sunday, the road completely reopened. The lane closures lasted just under five hours.

The names of the drivers were not released.
