Schaefer carries on Baraboo tradition
Breaks school record for discus

BARABOO, Wis. — Josie Schaefer is a freshman, but she isn’t throwing like one.
Last week, Schaefer broke the Baraboo school record in the discus, launching the saucer 142’7”.
The throw is also the best in the state so far this year. For Schaefer, the accomplishment is extra special.
Her father, Dan, won a state discus championship while throwing for Baraboo in the 1980s. When she broke the school record, the moment was priceless.
“After I let it go and heard the mark, I just jumped into his arms and gave him a big hug. It’s a moment I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
Schaefer’s goals don’t end with school records, as she has dreams of state dancing in her head.
“If goals aren’t crazy, they aren’t big enough.”
