San Damiano hosts first biergarten
MONONA, Wis. — The Friends of San Damiano celebrated summer Friday evening with their very first biergarten.
Visitors enjoyed food, yard games, live music and the view of the lake from the shoreline. Attendees also got a chance to tour the property, including getting an inside peek at the house.
Monona bought the property from the St. Norbert Abbey of De Pere in 2020 for $8.6 million and became the owners in 2021.

“We’re treating this as a public park,” said Jake Anderson, the city’s parks and recreation director. “It’s just under 10 acres, 1,500 feet of frontage on Lake Monona. It’s got elevated views so beautiful sunset viewing, bird-watching, fishing, access to the lake if you want to wade out and swim. It’s got a little something for everyone.”
Funds raised at the event will directly benefit the San Damiano Monona project and the Friends of San Damiano.
Another event is scheduled for August 11.
