Verona – Samuel David Nowland, age 84, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022. He was born on September 14, 1938, in Clear Spring, Indiana, the son of Noble and Kathryn (Weddell) Nowland. Sam went to grade school and high school in Clear Spring and enjoyed playing basketball during high school. Sam was proud to have served in the United States Air Force for 6 years, 1 month and 18 days.

Sam was united in marriage to Judith Ann Schmid on March 10, 1960, in Shalimar, Florida. Sam had a variety of jobs through the years, including operating the Midland Service Station in Verona, he owned and operated S & N Feeds and in retirement enjoyed being a crossing guard for the Verona School District for 10 years.

Sam loved country music, especially Chet Atkins and he was a talented guitar player. He also enjoyed fixing guitars and refurbishing them for kids that took an interest in playing. Sam would help anyone, especially those who were handicapped.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy; his children, Jeffrey (Michelle), Gregory, and Stephen; grandchildren, Alex, Rachel, Kali, and Tyler (Rikki); great-grandson, Patrick; sister, Jean (Roger) McGill; sisters-in-law, Alicia (Howie) Zweifel, Ruby (Rich) Pleva, Marilynn (Rick) Rowlands, Carol Nowland and JoAnn Nowland and many nieces and nephews and many beloved family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Noble Jr., Robert and John; and one sister, Marilyn Collins.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at UW Hospital and Clinics for the care they gave Sam over the last several years. Also, a special thanks to his grandson, Alex, for all of his help and support.
