Friends of UW-Madison Libraries hosts annual book sale this week

MADISON, Wis. — The Friends of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries will be holding its annual book sale this week.
The sale, featuring more than 15,000 books, is the largest used book sale in Wisconsin, according to a release.
Items featured in the sale include collections of American political biographies, archaeology, film studies, mathematics, Russian language and culture, current fiction, primate studies and philosophy, organizers said. Other areas include children’s books, American studies, world languages, music, cooking, physical and biological sciences, computer science, political science, law, education, travel, self-help, reference business, religion and engineering. There will also be maps, DVDs, CDs and LPs.
Books are donated by UW faculty, staff and students, as well as many Madison-area residents, according to the release. The sale helps fund special purchases for the libraries’ collections, book conservation and preservation, grants for visiting scholars, a Friends annual lecture series and other special events open to the public.
The sale is open to the public and held in room 116 in Memorial Library at 728 State St. A preview sale with a $5 entry fee will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. The regular sale will be held on Thursday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday, shoppers can fill up a grocery-sized bag for $4 a bag from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on Sunday from 1:05-2 p.m. all remaining books are free.
