Ruth Ann (Nyhuis) Verhage

MADISON-Ruth Ann (Nyhuis) Verhage, age 85, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare.

She was born July 9, 1932, in Waupun, the daughter of Henry and Myrtle (Gossink) Nyhuis. Ruth married Harlyn Lawrence Verhage on June 11, 1954, in Waupun. She graduated from Waupun High School in 1950. Ruth was a member of Crossroads Church where she was a choir member and soloist, and enjoyed singing for weddings and other special occasions. Ruth hosted many visiting pastors for lunch on Sundays. She worked at Bormann’s Apparel on Monona Drive for many years.

Ruth loved to travel and visited many of the Caribbean Islands and Alaska. She also traveled to England. Recently she moved to Oakwood East from Cherokee Condominiums and reunited with many old friends and made many new friends. She especially enjoyed the church services at Oakwood and looked forward to dinner with her neighbors on Wednesday evenings. She loved to hold her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Steve (Marcia) Verhage and Tim (Kim) Verhage; daughter, Ellen (Paul) Rosowski; grandchildren, Nate (Trish) Verhage, Alicia Rice, Kellie (Nathan) Haines, Amanda Verhage, Zachary (Amanda) Verhage, Sam Verhage, Emilee Verhage, Lauren Rosowski and Paul Rosowski Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Don Denman and Harvey Vande Zande; and many good friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harlyn; and sisters, Ardell Denman, Bernadine (Ralph) Broadway and Betty Vande Zande.

A memorial service will be held at OAKWOOD VILLAGE EAST TREE OF LIFE CHAPEL, 5565 Tancho Dr. Madison, at 12:30 p.m., on Sunday. Sept. 10, 2017.
