Rutabaga Paddlesports opens new location in Fitchburg
FITCHBURG, Wis. — Rutabaga Paddlesports has a new home in Fitchburg. The business cut the ribbon on its new location Tuesday.
Rutabaga broke ground on the site earlier this year, in the hopes of building its own unique space. Now that hope has become a reality.
“We have a full supply of camping gear. We have snowshoes. We do outdoor clothing,” owner Darren Bush said. “If you come in here with a credit card you can leave with everything you need to go anywhere in the world.”
The business features a pond right outside and is located just down the road from Nine Springs Creek, giving customers a chance to use their new products almost immediately after purchase. That proximity played into how Bush built the new space.
“We’ve always had an outdoor product selection, but now we are expanding that,” Bush said. “You can come in here and say I want to go out to the water and walk out with everything you need to do it.”
Bush also built the building with the environment in mind. That’s why the new facility is carbon neutral.
“We built a solar array that is slightly oversized,” he said. “The income that we get from that will offset the carbon that we use for our heater.”
You can find Rutabaga Paddlesports at 2620 Rimrock Road, Fitchburg, WI 53713.
