Ronald L. McGuire

Ronald L. McGuire, of Highland, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Upland Hills Health. Ron was born on March 2, 1932 in Highland to Leo and Magdalene (Moore) McGuire. He married the former Betty Kolar of Highland on October 1, 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Following graduation from The Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science, Ron owned and operated the McGuire Funeral Home in Highland until retiring in 1977. He then worked at Olin Corp for 7 years. Ron was a member of Ss. Anthony & Philip Parish, the McGuire-Longmeier V.F.W. Post #9440 in Highland and the Mineral Point D.A.V. #67. He enjoyed playing cards with friends, drives in the country and listening to audio books. His greatest joy was time spent with Betty.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty on May 7, 2013; four brothers, Emanuel; Urban; David and Harold; two sisters, Joan Egan and Mary Gundlach.
Ron is survived by four children, Sarah (William) Goldberger of Sarasota, FL; Peter McGuire (Kim Christensen) of Cedar Rapids, IA; Patrick McGuire of Madison and Kevin McGuire of Madison; five grandchildren, Kyle McGuire; Kelsey Goldberger; Crystal McGuire; Ryan Goldberger and Dallas King; two great grandchildren, Carly and Sydney King; a sister, Rosemary Laufenberg of Highland; a sister-in-law, Dolly McGuire, of Highland as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Highland with Fr. Jim Murphy officiating. Burial will be in St. Philip’s Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Friends may call at St. Philip’s Catholic Church on Friday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and again on Saturday after 10:00 A.M.
