Ronald John “R.J.” Evert
FITCHBURG-Ronald John “R.J.” Evert, age 87, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Heritage Monona.
He was born May 21, 1930, in Middleton, the son of Franklin P. and Violet W. (Vitense) Evert. He grew up on a farm in the Town of Berry, the eldest of four siblings.
Ron served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 until 1954. He was united in marriage to Gloria Darlene Johnson on Oct. 13, 1956, in Deerfield and together they made their home in Fitchburg and raised their two daughters.
Ron worked at the Dane County Highway Department as a mechanic and later as a shop superintendent. He retired from the Highway Department after 33 years of service.
Ron loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife and big band music.
Ron was also an avid fisherman and loved traveling near and far. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oregon and Stoughton VFW Post No. 328.
Ron is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria Evert; daughters, Kathy (Jill Jambura) Evert and Pam (Dale) Barnes; grandchildren, Jenny Barnes and Zach (Beth) Barnes; siblings, Darlene (Arthur) Grover, Marilyn (Dick) Hahn and Paul (Marjorie) Evert; sister-in-law, Norma Dibbert; brothers-in-law, Arlyn (Helen) Johnson and Jim Williams; and many nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law; and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017, with the Rev. Paul Markquart and the Rev. Dan Dibbert presiding. Burial will be held at TOWN OF DUNN BURYING GROUND. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017.
As Ron always said, “Life is good”.
