Rock County Authorities Clean Up 250-Gallon Fuel Spill

A diesel fuel tank overturned in Rock County on Sunday afternoon, spilling about 250 gallons of fuel.

Rock County sheriff’s deputies responded the area of North Henke Road in Milton for a report of a diesel fuel spill just before 6 p.m.

Investigators said a 2003 Chevy Silverado, driven by James Wollstrum, 77, of Milton, was traveling eastbound on East M-H Townline Road, pulling a trailer carrying a 300-gallon tank full of diesel fuel. According to the Sheriff’s Office, as Wollstrum?s vehicle crested the hill, the pin on the trailer broke, causing the trailer to become dislodged from the truck.

The trailer overturned in the ditch, spilling the fuel onto the asphalt and surrounding ditch.

Emergency crews spent an hour and a half cleaning up the spill.

The road was reopened Sunday evening.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is investigating. No citations have been issued at this time.
