Rock Aqua Jays host national tournament
Janesville water ski team goes for 19th title
JANESVILLE — The Rock Aqua Jays are hosting the Division One National Water Ski Show tournament at Traxler Park in Janesville Friday through Sunday.
It’s the 40th anniversary of the event and Janesville has hosted the national tournament 25 times.
The Aqua Jays have won the title 18 times. 14 teams will compete in this weekend’s event.
The headline act for the Aqua Jays is a world record human pyramid that has a base of 17 skiers.
“Imagine going to the gym and standing under 1000 pounds,” says skier Aaron Scholzel.
And for the women on the top of they pyramid, it’s no day at the beach, either.
“They always teach you, just don’t look down. You don’t wanna see what’s below you, those skis and everything,” says Traci Hanson.
