Robert R. Roets

WINDSOR – Robert R. Roets, age 85, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017.
He was born on December 23, 1931 to Frank and Gladys (Erickson) Roets near Merrill, WI. As a teenager he enjoyed fixing machinery and tractors on the family farm in Pine River near Merrill. He attended the National Guard for seven years with Co. H. 128th Infantry Unit of Baraboo and 132nd Tank Unit of Merrill. On September 18, 1954 he married Carol J. Schulz also from Merrill. They were married in the St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. They settled in Baraboo, WI where Robert was working in construction at the Badger Ordinance. After that closed he worked in home improvement in the Madison area. Eventually he started his own home improvement business until he retired. In 1961 he built the family home in Lake Windsor, WI, to be closer to his work where they still reside.
He also liked air planes and started taking flying lessons at the Merrill Airport in a J-3 Cub. Received his pilot’s license and owned a couple Cessna Aircrafts. Later he built his own airplane a “Dragon Fly”. He was a member of the EAA for many years and attended many conventions at Oshkosh. Robert enjoyed taking the family camping and traveling all over the US in their motorhome. His very favorite trip was the one the family took on an Alaskan cruise for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. He also enjoyed downhill skiing, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, motor cycling, and biking. He could be seen biking around the Lake Windsor neighborhood every day. He liked working with wood and metal and built many pieces of furniture. His favorite sports were Indy Car- NASCAR racing, Packers, Badgers, and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Robert is survived by four children, Robert R. (Cynthia), twins Cindy (Tom) Blanchar, Sandy (Brian) Hetzel, and Debby (David) Toole; four grandchildren, Christopher (Sarah) Roets, Andrew Roets, Cozette, and Frazier Toole; five brothers Norman, Frank Jr., Milan, Jack, and Joe; three sisters Jane, Joyce, and Carol. He was preceded in death by his Parents Frank and Gladys Roets; two sisters, Ruth and Marion and one brother Eugene.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 5, 2017 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest. A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
