Robert M. “Bob” Byrne

OREGON-Robert M. “Bob” Byrne, age 80, of Oregon, passed away unexpectedly from an apparent heart attack on Friday, July 28, 2017, at his home.

He was born on November 10, 1936, in Madison, WI, the son of Thomas and Eva (Aldrich) Byrne. He married the love of his life, Mary O’Neill on September 22, 1956 at Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church. Bob graduated from Oregon High School. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a Radar Specialist. Upon his return, Bob was a dedicated Heavy Equipment Operator with Mike Oliver/Hamersley Construction for many years and a proud member of the Operating Engineers Local 139 for over fifty years. Upon retirement, Bob enjoyed many years of traveling with Mary and spending time with family.

Bob was honored to go on the Badger Honor Flight to Washington D.C. several years ago. He also enjoyed going for coffee with friends and discussing life events. He was a lifelong and devoted member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church. Bob had many interests but his greatest joy was his family.

He is survived by his amazing wife, Mary; his loving children, Robert Byrne, Julie (Jody) Medenwaldt and Beth (Teg) Gray; two brothers, John H. Byrne, Ray (Karen Smith) Byrne; eight grandchildren, Andrew, Elis, Tom, Emily, Amy, Lilly, Hannah and Eli; great granddaughter, Evelyn; brother-in-law Robert Cavill; sister-in-law, Joannie Byrne; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold T. Byrne, Cletus (Jean Ann) Byrne; three sisters, Mary Lou (Donald) Clayton, Betty Warnecke, and Neva Cavill; and sister-in-law Josephine Byrne.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CHURCH, 651 North Main Street, Oregon, at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held at church from 9:30 am until the time of service on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church. We will carry you in our hearts forever… may God hold you in the palm of his hand until we meet again.
