Robert G. “Bob” Olsen

MADISON-Robert G. Olsen, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.
Bob was born on Feb. 13, 1925, in San Bernardino, Calif., the son of John and Ida Olsen.
During World War II, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Central South Pacific. He received an A.A. Arts degree from Los Angeles City College, a B.S. in Sociology from UW-Madison, and a M.S.W. from UW-Milwaukee. In his early career, he worked for the California Youth Authority. After moving to Wisconsin, Bob worked for the Department of Health and Social Services until his retirement. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Church.
Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edith; three sons, Dennis (Jean), Lawrence (Faith), and Steven; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John and Howard.
A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held at GRACE EVANGELICAL CHURCH, 4127 County AB, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2012, with the Rev. Paul Bawden presiding.
Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. A luncheon will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bob’s name to Alzheimer Association or Grace Evangelical Church of Madison.
