Robert A. “Gopher” Olson, 62, of Belmont, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at his home in Belmont.

Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where a prayer service and time of remembrance will be at 7:00 p.m.

Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery at a later date.

Robert was born on December 6, 1950 in Monroe, Wisconsin, the son of Ardell and Barbara (Rowe) Olson. He was married to Diane Waller and they had two sons, Jeromy and Aaron. He was later united in marriage to Susan Taylor on September 26, 1987. He was employed for over 30 years at Cummins Emission Solutions, (Nelson Muffler) Mineral Point, Wisconsin. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, and following the Packers and Badgers. He especially enjoyed traveling the back roads of Southwest Wisconsin, and four wheeling.

He is survived by his wife, Susan of Belmont; two sons, Jeromy (Barb) Olson of Monona, WI; Aaron (Kim) Olson of Cottage Grove, WI; two stepsons, Paul (Christy) Taylor of Loves Park, IL; Michael (Kimberly) Taylor of Nashville, IL; 12 grandchildren, Dominik, Tony, Alec, William, Noah, Jacob, Walter, Kylee, Andrew, Robbie, Autumn, and Matthew; brothers, Eugene (Jeanne) Olson of Belmont; Gerald (Julie) Helms of Waupon, WI; Randy Helms of Florida; Bruce (Becky) Helms of Belmont; sister, Beth (Mark) Hammes of Pewaukee, WI; brother-in-law, Gary Kruger of Madison; several nieces and nephew, Sue’s family in Illinois and aunt Mary Ann Erickson of Stoughton. He was preceded in death by his father, Ardell Olson, mother and step-father, Barbara and Bud Helms and sister, Nancy Kruger.
