Richard Michael McCann

JANESVILLE—Richard Michael McCann, age 75, of Janesville, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012, at home with his family at his side after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born in Janesville on July 11, 1936, the son of Hugh and Agnes (Monaghan) McCann and graduated from Janesville High School in 1954. On Jan. 23, 1960, he married Nancy Jean Bashaw at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Janesville where he was a life-long member. Richard worked for General Motors Assembly Plant for 38 years before retiring in 1992. He was a proud member of UAW Local 95. Richard’s life revolved around his large and loving family. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, attending area auctions where he found many treasures and was a collector of many things. He always had a project underway. His quick Irish wit and sense of humor will be remembered by many.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Nancy; 7 children: Kathleen McCann of Janesville, Patricia (Dan) Creek of Burlington, Colleen McCann of West Allis, Maureen (Jim) Hatchell of Kaukauna, Michael (friend, Nicola Story) McCann of Kennesaw, GA, Timothy McCann of McHenry, IL, and Peggy (Mike) Swigert of Machesney Park, IL; 10 grandchildren: Brittany and Emily Creek, Kathryn, Michael, and Thomas Hatchell, Rowan McCann, Sean and Delaney McCann, and Molly and Benjamin Swigert; 3 sisters: Rosemary (Walt) Pakes, Virgina Kas, and Phyllis McCann; a brother, Robert (Marilyn) McCann; brother-in-law, George (Shirley) Bashaw; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Jerome and Thomas McCann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Janesville, with Rev. Stephen J. Umhoefer officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME.
