Richard Douglas Michaelis

Richard Douglas Michaelis, age 74, of Brooklyn, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on Sept. 21, 1947, in Madison, the son of Ernest and Marie (Hoven) Michaelis.

Richard graduated from Verona High School in 1967 and later MATC. He married Janet Nehrlich on May 17, 1975, in Pardeeville. Richard was a carpenter and proud owner and operator of Brooklyn Restoration. He was a true renaissance man, and his job was his passion. He had a tireless work ethic and there was nothing that he couldn’t make.

Richard was a member of Four Lakes SCUBA and loved to SCUBA dive. He enjoyed putzing in his garage and loved playing with his grandchildren.

Richard is survived by wife, Janet; son, Matthew Michaelis; daughters, Sarah (Michael Long) Michaelis and Nicole (Kip) Rosenthal; eight grandchildren, Austin Long, Connor Long, Kassidy Rosenthal, Kozette Rosenthal, Klarra Rosenthal, Stephanie Pospichal, Erika Pospichal, and Emily Pospichal; great-granddaughter, Melody Pospichal; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Michaelis; and sister, Louise Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Melanie Pospichal; and brother, Donald Michaelis.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

The family would like to thank Dr. Natalie Callander, Michelle Lakner, and the oncology and Hematology doctors and nurses that took such wonderful care of Dick at UW Hospital and Clinics since 2016.
