Richard C. “Rick” Thornell

MADISON-Richard C. “Rick” Thornell, age 53, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg with his family by his side. He was born on May 15, 1959, in Madison, the son of David and Greta (Bumson) Thornell. Rick enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served from 1978 until 1981. He was employed with the maintenance department of UW-Madison. Rick was lifelong Packers fan and was involved with the Fantasy Football League for many years. He enjoyed learning about antiques, maps, baskets, collectables, and many other things. Rick loved to play pool, travel Wisconsin and visit the LaCrosse area.

He is survived by his son, Jed (Jen) Schug of Wyoming; two granddaughters; sister, Cindy (Mike) Byrne of Monona; brother, Jon (Linda) Thornell of Cottage Grove; his twin brother, Randall Thornell of Madison; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant daughter, Patricia. A

Memorial Gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, with military honors being conducted at 7 p.m. A private family burial will be held.
