Richard C. King

MADISON-Richard C. King, age 74, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012, at his residence. He was born on Aug. 31, 1937, in Madison, the son of John and Geraldine (Leonhardt) King.

Richard attended Madison East High School graduating in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956 and after his discharge, married Sharron Ersland on June 28, 1958, in Monona at Monona Lutheran Church. Dick attended Madison Area Technical College studying commercial art and received an apprenticeship with Wallace Sign Company. He became a co-owner of Muldowney Sign Company retiring in 2000. Dick was past-president of the Taychopera Black Powder Club and enjoyed making and shooting flintlock rifles. He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, cooking, and spending time outdoors.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sharron; children, Jeffery King of Phoenix, Ariz. and Diane (Charlie Olson) King of Fort Atkinson; grandchildren, Jaeden and Colton King; sister, Joanne (Don) Brill of Marshall; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Newton; and brothers, Donald, James and John King.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at noon p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012, with the Rev. Nick Utphall presiding. Private burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Memorials in Richard’s name may be made to St. Stephens Food Pantry, 5700 Pheasant Hill Road, Monona, WI 53716.
