Mercilus spent over nine seasons with the Houston Texans, amassing 57 career sacks.
He ranked second on the team in all-time sacks, behind J.J. Watt.
The Akron, Ohio native was a second-team All-Pro in 2016 the 26th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Mercilus played college football at Illinois, where he led the nation in sacks and forced fumbles in 2011.
That year, he was named a unanimous All-American and was a first-team All-Big ten selection.
The Texans released Mercilus earlier this week, citing increased depth at his position.
The veteran linebacker will help fill in for a Packers defense that is riddled with injury.
