Report: NFL says no to ‘M.D.’ on Chiefs lineman’s jersey
The NFL reportedly has denied a request from Kansas City Chiefs right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to add “M.D.” to his jersey after he graduated from medical school.
Montreal-based sports reporter Andy Mailly-Pressoir of TVA Sports reported on the decision last week, saying that Duvernay-Tardif hopes media buzz surrounding his achievement will make the NFL reconsider.
The 27-year-old Quebec native is the first active NFL player to hold a medical degree, according to Sports Illustrated.

Duvernay-Tardif left medical school in 2014 to pursue a football career and was drafted by the Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL draft just a few credits short of his medical degree.
Continuing his medical studies during the offseason, he was able to complete the eight-year process to become a doctor in late May, graduating from McGill University in Montreal with his medical doctorate.
The guard signed a five-year, $41.25 million contract extension with Kansas City in 2017.
