Red Cross volunteer from DeForest heads to Canada to help with wildfires

A Madison-area woman is being deployed to Canada by the American Red Cross in order to help people deal with the wildfires that struck Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Brenda Haney left from the Dane County Airport early Wednesday morning to head to Fort McMurray, which is about 300 miles north of Edmonton.

Haney spent two weeks on a deployment to Alberta last year to run a shelter that accommodated approximately 600 people who were displaced for two weeks by a forest fire.

The DeForest resident was deployed five separate times in 2015. It is unknown at this point how long she will spend helping residents in Fort McMurray.
