Racine man accused of breaking infant’s legs
Man was asked to look after girl last week

RACINE, Wis. — A Racine man faces a preliminary hearing next week on charges that he broke an infant’s legs and left her with a possible skull fracture.
Twenty-year-old Shavontae L. Daniels is charged with felony child abuse. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
Prosecutors said Daniels had been asked to look after a 13-week-old girl last week. They say the mother returned and saw that her daughter’s legs looked deformed, so she called 911.
A Journal Times of Racine report said the girl had a head injury, and X-rays showed fractures to both thigh bones.
Daniels told investigators the baby might have gotten hurt when he fell on her.
A preliminary hearing has been set for Aug. 22.
