Project M Finals are This Thursday

Three finalists in 105.5 Triple M’s Project M competition will square off at the Club Tavern on Thursday, June 6 at 7 p.m. There is no cover for this event.

Project M is a songwriting and performance competition wherein local groups video their performances at Triple M’s studio. The “episodes” stream on Triple M’s website where listeners vote. Triple M calls Project M a “local reality show” and, indeed, one gets voted off the island every week.

The competition began back in April with eight bands that were chosen after entering the contest. Bands post to the website and to Triple M’s Facebook page in attempts to procure votes and move to the next weekly episode (though the votes carry weight, the judges still make the final call).

The contest is an exercise in songwriting acumen as each week the bands are given a challenge:

The three finalists were announced at an event at the Crystal Corner Bar on May 6. The finalists are:

Emerald Grove (Madison)
An acoustic duo, draws influences from folk, indie, and rock backgrounds, to form a unique timbre, lavish with vocal harmonies.

Amberstein (Milwaukee)
A rock power trio with influences ranging from Led Zeppelin and Ozzy Osbourne to The Black Crowes, Silvertide, and Shinedown.

The finale gives each band a chance to perform a thirty-minute set of all-original material. The judges confer and a winner will be chosen.

The winning artists will have their song played on 105.5 Triple M, plus receive a Triple M integrated marketing campaign worth $2,500, an automatic entry into the Mystique Battle of the Bands (minimum prize is $2,000) and a $500 gift card from Ulla Eyewear.
