Portage police chase down man with two warrants for arrest

PORTAGE, Wis. — Officers from the Portage Police Department arrested a man with two warrants for arrest out of Sauk County Thursday, according to police.
The Portage Police Department was called Thursday afternoon for help regarding a physical altercation in an alley behind a multi-family dwelling. One of the men involved in the multiple-individual altercation was Michael J. Gonzales from the Wisconsin Dells, who fled on foot from officers, police said.
The officers pursued Gonzalez on foot through the east side neighborhoods of Portage and discovered that he has two separate state-wide warrants for arrest out of Sauk County. While Gonzalez was able to briefly elude officers by enlisting a ride from a passerby to one of Portages north side businesses, deputies were able to locate him, and he would flee again, police said.
After another short pursuit on foot, Gonzales was taken into custody near the intersection of New Pinery Road and CTH CX, according to police. He is now being held at the Columbia County Jail and accused of facing charges of resisting/obstructing an officer, bail jumping and two Sauk County warrants, according to police.
