A Portage 20-year-old will spend the rest of his life in prison with the option for parole in 47 years after shooting his co-worker.

Jordan Scott shot David Johnson 10 times outside a Portage Subway restaurant last fall.

Prosecutors said he shot Johnson because he was angry about being reprimanded for bad behavior in front of customers. When Scott was arrested there was a gun, rounds of ammunition, knives and a gas mask in his vehicle.

Scott apologized in court, and David Johnson’s mother gave a tearful testimony before the judge handed down the sentence.

“I miss everything about my son, but what I especially miss is the opportunity say, ‘I love you,'” said Karen Johnson, David Johnson’s mother. “I would do anything to have him back, even if it was just for one more day.”

Scott said he could have just talked to David Johnson, and he didn’t fully understand why he shot him.

“I know I lost myself,” Scott said.
