Popular salon’s closure prompts concerns from customers

A popular and long-running Monona salon has closed its doors.

The Ultimate Spa and Salon has been in business for more than 20 years, according to its website. This week customers were informed the business was closing with a handwritten note taped to the front door. It reads, “Sorry for the inconvenience. We are no longer in business.”

“To my surprise, they are closed,” said Patti O’Hearn, a customer of the salon who stopped by the business to make a purchase with a gift card.

O’Hearn received the $50 gift card from her son. Other customers contacted News 3 with concerns about their gift cards, some for as much as $250.

“Well, it is not so much the $50 to me, but the fact that my son and daughter-in-law spent the $50 to give me a gift certificate, so yes that does concern me,” O’Hearn said.

News 3 attempted to contact the management of the salon without success. The voice-mail box at the salon is full.

A second handwritten note taped to the front door of the salon informed customers, “We are not accepting gift cards without proof of purchase at this time. If you can prove it, please call 831-8181. Ask for Theron.”

News 3 contacted Theron at that number and he identified himself as the accountant for the salon. He said that customers with gift cards should contact him and each case will be looked at.

No reason has been given for the closure of the salon at this time.
