A registered sex offender has been released and will be moving into a Monroe neighborhood, according to a release from Monroe police.

Gary Gene Moffitt, 68, was released from the Illinois Department of Corrections Thursday after serving a 10-year sentence for the sexual assault of a 4-year-old child, officials said.

Moffitt served his entire sentence and will no longer be under supervision, except reporting to the Sex Offender Registry, according to the release.

Moffitt will be living at 1318 11th St. in Monroe, police said.

Officers provided information and flyers to neighbors surrounding the residence, as well as to schools, according to the release.
