Police presence outside Madison poll prompts voting extension, city says

A Madison polling location has extended its voting hours Tuesday after a Madison judge agreed a police investigation that may have deterred voters earlier in the day.

The city of Madison said voters in Ward 76 can cast their ballots at the polling place in the Revival Ridge Apartments, 2313 Allied Drive, until 9:30 p.m. The polls there were scheduled to close at 8 p.m.

A large police presence for nearly five hours Tuesday may have deterred voters from entering the polling location, according to a news release. Judge Richard Niess granted the order to extend polling hours.

According to the signed order tweeted by the city clerk at 7:11 p.m., the court also ordered poll workers to note the ballots that were cast by those voters who got in line after 8 p.m.
