Police: Pedestrian killed in downtown car crash

Madison Police responded to a car accident that killed a pedestrian Saturday night.

Police responded to the 400 block of South Park Street near the intersection of West Washington Avenue at 7:38 p.m. for reports of a car versus pedestrian crash, according to dispatchers.

A 24-year-old Madison woman was taken to the hospital but did not survive her injuries, according to Madison Police. Two other pedestrians were treated at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while under the influence.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reported that the southbound lanes Park Street reopened at 10:47 p.m. after being closed for nearly three hours.
