Police arrest suspect in incident near Vel Phillips Memorial High School

MADISON, Wis. — Madison police say they arrested a suspect after they set up a perimeter around Vel Phillips Memorial High School following the report of an armed robbery Monday morning.

Madison Metropolitan School District pokesperson Tim LeMonds said, “school will not be delayed related to the incident this morning.”

According to an incident report, a resident saw someone going through his car near on S Yellowstone Drive at 1:58 a.m.

The resident confronted the person and had a handgun pointed at them by the suspect going through the car. The suspect then ran from the scene.

Multiple agencies responded to the incident to set up a perimeter including a Waunakee K-9 officer, Dane County deputies, and Mcfarland drone officers.

Police said they witnessed the suspect running through the construction area of Vel Philips Memorial High School.

Officers said the suspect was located and arrested just before 5 a.m., and the gun was located.
