Police: Men arrested on suspicion of weapons violation charges on Verona Road
Two men from Chicago area arrested
MADISON, Wis. — Two men were arrested on Thursday night after a Madison police officer driving by the Speedway Gas Station noticed a group of people acting like they were about to fight.
The incident began in the 4900 block of Verona Road just before midnight Thursday night. When the group noticed the officer, many either ran away or took off in vehicles.
Bystanders told officers some of the people had guns.
After getting license plates and descriptions of vehicles, officers pulled over a black Dodge Caravan near Beltline Highway and Rimrock Road.
Two men were ordered out of the Caravan at gunpoint, and officers said they found two .45 caliber handguns, a 4-inch switchblade knife and marijuana.
Officers arrested 27-year-old Derrick Devony Jones, of Dolton, Ill., and 24-year-old Eron Jamal Braggs, of Dolton, Ill., both of whom are convicted felons.
Jones faces charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, disorderly conduct, and possession of a switchblade knife.
Braggs faces charges of disorderly conduct while armed and possession of a firearm by a felon.
