Police: Man fires gun between him and family during argument

A Grant County man faces charges after allegedly shooting a handgun into the ground between him and where his fiancee and child were standing, officials said.

Around 8:40 p.m. Grant County sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Brewery Hollow Road for a report of a domestic disturbance that involved a man discharging a handgun during an argument with his fiance, according to a release.

Investigators said David McNerney, 44, of Cassville, and his fiancee had been arguing while in Eastman, and on their way home McNerney said he was going to kill his fiancee, their son, their dog and himself when they got home.

When they got home, McNerney got a handgun from his gun safe, loaded it and fired it multiple times into the ground between him and where his fiancee and their 5-year-old son were standing, deputies said. McNerney was found to be intoxicated during the incident.

He was arrested on tentative charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety, being armed with a firearm while intoxicated and domestic disorderly conduct. He is being held without bond in the Grant County Jail until his initial appearance.
