Police: Madison College employee pistol whipped during robbery

Robbers took phone and wallet in incident

MADISON, Wis. — A worker at Madison College told police he was pistol whipped by two unknown men during a robbery at the school late Tuesday evening.

The incident happened just before 8:30 p.m. outside Madison College in the 3500 block of Anderson Street.

According to police, the victim was walking into a building at Madison College when he was approached by two men he didn’t know. The victim told police one of the men produced a handgun and pointed it at him.

Madison College’s chief of public safety, Jim Buttoin, said the employee did everything right.

“We tell our employees the same things,” Buttoin said. “Be cognizant of your surroundings. We offer an escort service. If you feel uneasy, call us. We will get you to your vehicle. It’s not an issue. Try and come out in pairs if you can.”

Police said the victim said he was robbed of his wallet and his phone, although his phone was found nearby after the robbery. Police said the victim also described being struck with the handgun, which resulted in minor injuries. The victim said the men left in a small, dark four-door vehicle.

Police are looking for two black men who may have been involved in the incident.

Madison police said one of the men is described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build and dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.

The other man was last seen wearing a “logo” shirt with white stripes on the sleeve, according to Madison police.

Madison College Public Safety officials issued to faculty, staff and students described both men as black and in their 20s.

One of the men is described as 6 feet tall with a slim build, according to the statement. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and brown or camouflage pants.

According to the statement issued by Madison College, the other man is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall with short hair and a bumpy face. He was wearing a black jersey with the No. 16 on it and black pants.

Anyone who knows anything about the incident is asked to call Madison police.
