Police Investigate Two East Side Copper Thefts

Two more copper thefts have happened on the city’s East Side and Madison police are looking for clues as to who is behind the thefts.

The first incident happened last Thursday on Manufacturers Drive at a job site for a construction company around noon. Police said someone forced their way on to the job site and stole approximately $2000 of wire.

The other incident happened at an MG&E substation on Sycamore Avenue around 7:45 a.m. on Friday. In this incident, thieves cut chain link fences and locks to get to the wire. They stole around $3,000 of wire and caused about $500 in damage to the facility. Some of the wire in the second incident belonged to the American Transmission Co.

Police are asking anyone that knows anything about either of these two incidents to call Madison Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
