Police follow trail of blood to battery scene

MADISON, Wis. — Madison police officers used a trail of blood drops to lead them to the scene of a battery downtown Saturday morning, according to a news release.
Police said a 24-year-old man contacted officers near the intersection of University Avenue and Hawthorne Court around 2:16 a.m. after suffering significant facial injuries. The man was unable to say where the battery occurred or provide a description of the suspects.
Officers followed the trail of blood to Hawthorne Court. They used street video from the area to determine the victim had been hit from behind by a man, after which another man searched the victim’s pockets, the release said. The victim told police he wasn’t sure if anything was taken.
Police were unable to locate the men involved, the release said. The first man is described as a black man in his 20’s and was wearing a maroon jacket and black baseball cap. The second man is described as a black man in his 20s and was wearing black clothing and white shoes.
The victim was taken to Meriter Hospital for his injuries, police said.
