Police attempt to rescue person in Mauston lake

A person was pronounced dead after first responders attempted a rescue from a lake Friday in Juneau County.

The Mauston Police Department said officers responded to a report of an individual in Decorah Lake near West Monroe Street during the early-morning hours.

Police said first responders attempted to rescue the individual. The Juneau County Coroner pronounced the individual deceased at the scene.

Police said Friday that the incident was under investigation by the Mauston Police Department and the Juneau County Coroner Office.

The Mauston Fire Department, Mauston Area Ambulance, Juneau County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources also assisted in the incident.
