Police ask city for 2-wheeled electric patrol vehicles
La Crosse police could soon have a new way of getting around town.
The department is looking at adding a fleet of two-wheeled battery-powered electric vehicles to its list of vehicles. The department is asking the city to purchase five Segways for patrol.
Police Capt. Ron Tischer said Segways are a good way to connect with the community.
“Officers can get out there ride around, people can still approach them,” Tischer said. “Sometimes it’s just one of those things that’s an impetus to having maybe a younger person or someone come up to the officer and create some dialogue, which is what we want.”
The city will make a decision on the proposal next month.
