Police arrest man wanted in Madison homeless shelter shooting

MADISON, Wis. — A man charged with shooting someone at a homeless shelter in Madison earlier this week has been arrested.
Ronald E. Stephens is facing an attempted first-degree intentional homicide charge. Authorities with the Madison Police Department said Stephens turned himself in to the Milwaukee Police Department Thursday night.
Police said he shot someone Monday evening at the temporary men’s shelter located inside the city’s Fleet Services building on First Street.
Madison officers were outside of the shelter for an unrelated medical call when they heard gunshots from inside the building. They said one man suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
A Madison officer fired their weapon while inside the building, according to Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes. Authorities believe the injured person was shot before officers entered the building. Since an officer was involved, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating this incident.
