Police arrest 21-year-old woman in downtown parking ramp homicide

MADISON, Wis. — Madison police have arrested a 21-year-old woman for allegedly shooting and killing a man in a State Street Campus parking ramp early Sunday morning, according to a news release.
Steven Villegas, 21, was taken to a hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound after being shot in the torso around 2 a.m. Sunday. Officials said he died at the hospital.
Officers arrested Kenyairra I.S. Gadson Monday morning as a suspect in the case. Officials said surveillance images and information from witnesses lead to the identification of Gadson.
Gadson was taken into custody without incident. She is facing charges for first-degree intentional homicide.
Police said the shooting happened on the Frances Street side of the ramp. They believe the victim was walking through the ramp, and there’s no indication it was a drive-by shooting.
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Villegas. Preliminary results of an autopsy confirm Villegas died from homicidal firearm-related trauma, according to a release
Madison Police Chief Mike Koval said this is Madison’s fifth homicide of the year.
