Plinske leaving UW-Whitewater

Whitewater, La Crosse win baseball openers

After nine years at the helm of the intercollegiate athletics at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Dr. Paul Plinske was named the athletic director at the University of Nebraska Kearney, a NCAA Division II university, on Wednesday.

“Dr. Plinske has been an important part of Warhawk Athletics for nearly a decade. His impact can be seen throughout the athletic department from the improved facilities to the nine national championships that our teams won under his direction. I appreciate all that he has contributed to the success of our student-athletes, coaches and staff,” Chancellor Richard Telfer said.

“We wish Paul all the best in his new position. The University of Nebraska Kearney is getting an outstanding leader as their new athletic director,” Telfer said.

“It is difficult to put in to words my admiration and appreciation for those who have helped me as director of athletics at UW-Whitewater,” Plinske said. “The university and community have made my nine years extremely gratifying. It took a special place to pull me away from Whitewater, but it is now time for me to embark on another challenge.”

Plinske’s last day at UW-Whitewater will be Aug. 23.

Telfer will name an interim athletic director and a national search for Plinske’s replacement will be conducted.
