Players on rec soccer team attack man on field, police say

MADISON, Wis. — A man playing soccer at a Madison indoor soccer club suffered head injuries this weekend after the other team’s players attacked him, Madison police said.
The police department said a 23-year-old man was competing in a recreational soccer game Sunday at about 10:40 p.m. when suffered facial and nasal fractures.
The battery took place at the Salon Centinela Soccer Club on Blazing Star Drive, according to the report. A teammate of the victim said a melee broke out when someone from the other team, which was losing with a couple of minutes to play, committed a hard foul. The victim had not noticed the initial skirmish, and was playing on when he was punched in the head from behind. That put him down on the ground, and three to four members of the opposing team began kicking him in the head.
The attackers fled prior to police arrival, accoridng to the report. Officers are in the process of trying to identify them.
