Plane crashes through fence at Reedsburg airport

A plane crashed through the fence at the end of the runway while trying to land at Reedsburg Municipal Airport Friday morning, officials said.
The Reedsburg Police Department said officers and firefighters responded to a report of a crash at 11:09 a.m. Officers found the single prop plane at the intersection of Zinga Drive and Veterans Drive, just east of airport property.
The pilot, Donald G. Kargel, 72, and passenger Mary J. Kargel, 70, both of Stillwater, Minnesota, were not injured, the report said.
The pilot told officials that he was attempting to land on the crossing runway but was operating too fast to land. He attempted to accelerate to take off again but crashed through the perimeter fence.
The plane was removed and placed at the Reedsburg Airport and the Federal Aviation Authority was notified to investigate.
