Plan for south side shelter, resource center uncertain

Board votes for committee to review proposed building plan

MADISON, Wis. — A plan for a proposed day shelter and resource center on Madison’s south side is still up in the air after a town of Madison board meeting Thursday.

At the meeting, the board voted for a committee to review a revised building plan for the proposed shelter.

The town planning committee voted not to approve Dane County’s plan to expand an existing shelter at 1490 Martin St. earlier this month.

A handful of town of Madison residents voiced their concerns at Thursday’s meeting regarding the shelter.

“I think their biggest concern is what the nature of the facility is and how that is going to interact with the neighborhood,” town Chairman James Campbell said.

The Dane County Board approved the purchase of the south side property last month for $300,000. The property is currently owned by Porchlight.
