Pet Oxygen Masks Save 2 Dogs After House Fire

Madison firefighters resuscitated two dogs that were found unresponsive after an East Side house fire on Saturday.

The blaze was reported on Saturday afternoon when a neighbor driving past the unoccupied home in the 800 block of Valley Road saw flames through the front window. Fire crews entered the home and reported seeing heavy black smoke.

Crews were able to extinguish the flames in minutes, authorities said.

A cat in the home was fine but the two dogs were unresponsive, according to Madison Fire Department officials. They revived the dogs using pet masks and oxygen.

The Fire Department estimates the fire caused $20,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
